Gradall Introduces New Model XL-3100 Excavator With EPA-Friendly Detroit Diesel Engine

NEW PHILADELPHIA, OH–Gradall has introduced a new Model XL 3100 hydraulic excavator equipped with a Detroit Diesel OM 906 engine that meets or exceeds tough emission standards nationwide. The 190-horsepower (142 kw) engine, which is EPA certified for all 50 states, powers the excavator's highway-speed wheeled undercarriage as well as its upperstructure and versatile telescoping boom.

The single-engine Gradall design offers excellent cost-savings. Compared with the cost of excavators with two engines, the initial purchase price of the Model XL 3100 is very low. Plus, the single-engine concept can dramatically reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs.

Available with a 4 x 4 or 4 x 2 undercarriage, the Model XL 3100 can be driven at speeds in excess of 50 mph, taking full advantage of the machine's multi-task versatility and allowing it to work in many different locations in a single day without the need for a lowboy trailer.

The Model XL 3100 concept has been long preferred by governments and contractors for its ability to cost-efficiently handle the work of many machines. The job-proven Gradall boom moves up, down, from side to side and telescopes, creating a very low working profile to handle jobs under bridges, signs and tree limbs.

The Model XL 3100 is ideal for excavating, ditching, demolishing, sloping, grading, loading, unloading and other jobs, benefiting from a 180° rotation of the entire boom. Unlike other machines that may be equipped with a rotation attachment, there is no loss of boom force with the Gradall boom rotation design. As a result, the Model XL 3100 is able to deliver full productivity with excavating and grading buckets, blade, auger, boom extensions, hammers and more. Changeover between attachments is quick and easy and usually can be done by one man in only a few minutes.

The first machine of its kind in the 34,000-pound weight class, the Model XL 3100 is equipped with Gradall's high-pressure load-sensing hydraulics. Eliminating the need for "mode" selection, the sophisticated hydraulics system automatically adjusts for the job at hand, with no operator guesswork and no waste of fuel by unnecessarily using a high-consumption mode. This powerful system allows the XL 3100 to efficiently handle delicate finishing work and high productivity jobs.

Mobility, both on and off the jobsite, is exceptional. And while it's working, the Model XL 3100 can be re-positioned from the upper cab, saving time and increasing daily work productivity. The new low profile rear end and counter weight increase operator visibility of the job site and maintain a minimal requirement for rear swing.

The Model XL 3100 features a host of operator-friendly advantages designed to improve comfort and visibility while reducing fatigue. The upperstructure cab integrates a state-of-the-art adjustable seating module with convenient joystick controls built right into the armrests. Standard equipment features include a removable front window, skylight and gauges to monitor important machine functions. Other available options include air conditioning, radio, extra lighting and even an anti-theft kit.
