XL 4100 II creates access roads and green spaces for shopping center

Construction of major retail centers typically operates on rigid timetables, requiring many different jobs. To meet these requirements, it's to the contractor's advantage to have fewer pieces of versatile equipment that can efficiently perform many different tasks. That's why Owens & Dove Inc., a leading Virginia contractor, believes in getting the extra value of Gradall excavators on its job sites.

Owens & Dove used an Gradall Model XL 4100-II to accomplish a wide range of jobs on a 40-acre shopping center site, located just off I-95 in Dumfries, Va. During part of the day, the Model XL 4100-II excavated a section of an existing highway to cut in an access road. On another area on the site, the same machine spread soil for grass and plantings in parking lot islands, created in many different shapes for aesthetic appeal. In each case, the versatile Gradall boom was able to address the correct angles to complete the work in short time. Equipped with high pressure, load sensing hydraulics, there was no need for the operator to select working modes for either excavating the highway or spreading top soil. "I was reluctant to give up the G660C model," said Allen Jenkins, who has operated Gradall excavators for about 30 years. "But the XL 4100-II is faster, stronger and even easier to operate." In just minutes, the operator can select the joystick pattern he prefers - either Gradall, Deere or SAE.
